Molecular hand-off mechanisms during lagging strand replication from the DNA primase DnaG to DNA polymerase DnaE and from DnaE to PolC.
We still do not fully understand how the primase and the polymerase coordinate their activities to synthesize and extend RNA primers at the lagging strand, and how these extended RNA-DNA hybrid primers are then extended further by processive polymerases to form Okazaki fragments. This work aims to reveal mechanistic details of these processes.
